Anchorage Food Worker Card Guide for Restaurant Jobs

If you are looking for cook, prep, dish or other food-handling work in Anchorage, a local food worker card may be part of the employer's requirements.

Checked against official Alaska and Municipality of Anchorage information in September 2026.

Anchorage has its own food worker card program.

The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation explains that the Municipality of Anchorage operates a separate food worker card program. For food establishments regulated by the Anchorage Health Department, workers need the Municipality of Anchorage card rather than relying on the State-issued card.

Current Anchorage guidance: The Municipality says food workers must have a current and valid food worker card within 21 days of hire. The card costs $10.

Who may need one?

Food workers who handle food or clean dishes and utensils are generally covered by Anchorage's food worker card requirement. That can include many cooks, prep workers and dishwashers. Exact requirements should still be confirmed with the hiring employer.
